All terrorists were “neutralized” in the assault on the Volgograd prison

Security forces have successfully stormed the Volgograd prison where several inmates attacked guards and took hostages on Friday, the Russian National Guard confirmed. All terrorists have been “neutralized” and all hostages have been released.

According to WarGonzo, a Telegram channel, one of the hostage takers was wearing an explosive belt that failed to detonate. It is not yet known whether the belt was genuine or not.

The identity of the attackers has been confirmed, media reports say, citing court documents. One of the four suspects was jailed for murder, while the other three were convicted of drug trafficking. The suspects are believed to be from Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

“Snipers of the Russian National Guard special forces in the Volgograd region neutralized four prisoners who had taken prison employees hostage with four accurate shots,” the service said in a statement.

The Russian Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) announced that 12 people were taken hostage in the attack: eight guards and four inmates. Four of the guards died after receiving fatal stab wounds, while the others remain hospitalized. The four inmates taken hostage were also injured.

The service is committed to providing all necessary support to the families of the deceased.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate two of the attackers, who were in critical condition after being shot by snipers, according to SHOT, a Telegram channel. However, both eventually died; the other two culprits were shot dead during the assault on the facility.
