Several dead in knife attack in Solingen

Several people have reportedly been killed in a knife attack in the western German city of Solingen, according to local media.

According to the Bild website, a man randomly stabbed passers-by on Friday evening at a festival in the city centre. Several people were also injured.

The attacker reportedly fled and police launched a manhunt. Police helicopters were seen hovering over the city.

The attack took place during celebrations marking Solingen’s 650th anniversary.

City authorities have asked people to leave the area and police are imposing security cordons.

Emergency teams on site are currently treating the injured, according to media reports.
