“They have been understandably devastated by the events of the last 48 hours and I continue to ask everyone to respect their privacy as they try to come to terms with what has happened.

“From the beginning, our priority has been to provide Eve’s family with the answers they deserve – and ultimately, to ensure that the person responsible for her death is brought to justice.

“A suspect – who we believe to be known to Eve – has now been charged with her murder and will appear in court.”

He added: “I would also like to thank everyone in the community for their patience and cooperation this week as we conducted inquiries as part of the investigation.

“As always, I encourage anyone with information that could assist our investigation – and who has not yet come forward – to do so.”
