Car stolen at gunpoint; suspect arrested after police chase in Vista

VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — Police arrested a man after a car was stolen at gunpoint and then crashed following a police chase in Vista early Sunday.

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reports that deputies responded to the 900 block of S. Santa Fe Avenue in Vista at 1:25 a.m. Sunday for reports of a carjacking.

According to the sheriff’s office, five men armed with handguns forced a victim out of their car. After searching the area, officers found the car near W. Vista Way and Emerald Drive and attempted to stop it, but the driver fled and a police chase began.

The sheriff’s office said the chase ended when the driver of the stolen car crashed into a small median. Officers also said only one suspect was in the car at the time.

A homicide investigation is underway after family members found a man dead in his home

The male suspect, whom police have not identified, was taken into custody and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The carjacking victim was not injured. The investigation is ongoing.
