“I am not allowed to speak…” BJP distances itself from Kangana Ranaut’s comments on farmers’ agitation

New Delhi[India]August 26 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has distanced itself from Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut’s statement on the farmers’ agitation and also asked the actor-turned-politician to refrain from making such statements in future.

“The statement made by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers’ movement does not reflect the opinion of the party. The Bharatiya Janata Party expresses its disagreement with the statement made by Kangana Ranaut. On behalf of the party, Kangana Ranaut is neither authorised nor empowered to make statements on matters of party policy,” the party said in a statement.

“On behalf of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Kangana Ranaut has been directed not to make such statements in future. The Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to following the principles of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ and social harmony,” it added.

MP Randeep Singh Surjewala had earlier attacked the BJP over Kangana’s remarks on farmers and said that the BJP has always lied, cheated, conspired and oppressed farmers. “Get well soon Kangana! After all, why do BJP members hate the food suppliers of the country so much? The BJP has always lied, cheated, conspired and oppressed our farmers. And once again a BJP MP has made baseless allegations against our food suppliers. The question now is whether Kangana made this cheap allegation on farmers as per the BJP’s election strategy? Were these just Kangana’s words or did someone else copy them? If not, then why are the Prime Minister of the country, the Chief Minister of Haryana and all the BJP MPs and MLAs remaining silent on this issue?” the Congress leader posted on X.

Surjewala also attached a news article to his post. According to the report, Kangana stirred controversy by suggesting that the farmers’ protests could have led to a situation similar to that in Bangladesh if the government had not taken strong action. (ANI)
