CSS Football Ready for Change of Script Thanks to Veteran Leadership

The College of Saint Scholastica football team started their 2023 campaign with a 2-2 record, with plenty of season still ahead of them. However, six straight losses have them looking forward to this year, which is finally here, and these Saints are ready to go, especially the upperclassmen.

“We’re just trying to stay similar, do the same things and change what we can, what didn’t work last year, try to be coachable players so the coaches can take some of that responsibility off their shoulders and they can do what they need to do, focus on the younger guys and make sure they do their job because they have confidence in us. I love our seniors, I could probably cry talking about them because those guys mean so much to me,” senior receiver Ricky Weber said.

For head coach Mike Heffernan, it also echoes the magnitude of the seniors’ leadership toward his freshmen.

“The freshmen that have come in have really lived up to expectations,” Heffernan said. “It’s nice to have seniors setting the tone early and quickly. So it’s really great, the guys have worked really hard.”

The Saints will parade on September 14 against Rockford University.
