Finland fines three French nationals who crossed Russian border – Society and culture

HELSINKI, August 26 /TASS/. A Finnish prosecutor has demanded a fine for three French citizens who illegally crossed the border with Russia in the Finnish town of Parikkala, the Finnish Border Guard said.

The incident occurred on August 24. A local resident reported that three men were heading towards the border with Russia. Border guards who arrived at the scene discovered that they were French citizens who had come to Finland “to observe nature and birds.” Once at the border, they decided to “get to know Russia better,” ignoring warning signs and posters.

The three men pleaded guilty and were each sentenced to fines of 30 to 40 days (equivalent to one day’s income of the offender). The Finnish border commissioner informed his Russian counterpart about the incident, the statement said.
