Goa AAP chief challenges cancellation of bail in 2023 road accident case

AAP Goa unit chief Amit Palekar has filed a lawsuit against a local court’s decision to cancel his conditional bail in the 2023 road accident case. The Bombay High Court has now been roped in and the crime branch has stepped up efforts to locate him.

Additional sessions judge Apurva Nagvekar revoked Palekar’s bail, accusing him of visiting several countries without court permission despite being allowed to go only to France. Palekar was arrested earlier for allegedly tampering with evidence to protect accused driver Paresh Sawardekar.

The Supreme Court has fixed the hearing for Wednesday. According to police sources, Palekar has to surrender as per the trial court’s order and will be detained as directed by the court. Meanwhile, Crime Branch Superintendent Rahul Gupta confirmed that Palekar is still wanted.
