The Heaven by Marc Jacobs archive sale attracted New York’s best outfits

The Heaven by Marc Jacobs archive sale attracted New York’s best outfits

Vissy Hoffie: But so much happens in a short time.

TV: How long have you been friends?

JH: We’ve been online for four years, but we met in real life last summer.

VH: It was so seamless (and) I felt like we had known each other forever.

TV: Describe your friendship in one word.

JH: It’s nice. It’s hard to make friends in your late twenties because everyone, for the most part, has their own circles and careers. I’m relatively new to the city and Vissy is also trying to settle in, so it’s really refreshing to have a good friendship.

TV: How would you say you influence each other’s style?

JH: Through subtle forms of inspiration. I really like what Vissy is wearing today and immediately asked her about it.

VH: Every time I see Julia, I also ask her about her outfit. It’s fun to see how her friends express themselves and discover new designers or places they shop.

TV: What’s the most questionable style phase you’ve ever gone through?

JH: I would say the pastel grunge era of Tumblr in 2014 with a lot of cheap faux leather. I didn’t know what my style was, so sometimes it was completely vintage and other times it was a Rick Owens copy.

VH: There was this weird time in high school where I had this pastel phase, and when I got more interested in boys, I threw it all out and started wearing obnoxious club outfits that lacked experimentation.

TV: Are there any particular items you hope to find at the archive sale?

VH: I’m from Australia, so I only see a lot of these brands online. It’s always nicer to see them in person and be able to feel the material feel of the clothes. I’m not looking for anything and I certainly don’t need anything either. But ask me when I’m there, the story might change.

Sophia Wilson, 24, fashion photographer

TV: What time did you get up for the sale?

Sophie Wilson: Just now. I live pretty close, but I was here a few days ago because I came for the friends and family premiere.

TV: Tell me about the preview.

SO: It was great, I spent a lot of money.

TV: What was your favorite thing you bought there?

SO: A sequined mini dress.

TV: Where are you going to wear it?

SO: I wore it last night.

TV: What are you wearing now?

SO: I’m wearing a 90s Gaultier dress, Adidas I bought in Stockholm, and the Heaven bag and necklace I bought at the premiere.

TV: How would you describe your outfit in one word?

SO: Tough guy.

TV: Is matcha an accessory?

SO: Yes, matcha is the most important accessory.

TV: What will you do after the sale?

SO: Get a massage, go to a party, work.

AJ Grove, 21, fashion designer

TV: When did you arrive here?

AJ Grove: I got here at eight in the morning, so about two and a half hours ago. I hope it’s worth it… None of my friends wanted to come, they didn’t want to wait in line, but I’m proud of myself. I didn’t think I was going to make it.

TV: What do you hope to find?

AG: I’m just going to browse the Mowalola section. It was just my birthday, so this is a gift to myself.

TV: Tell me about the outfit you are wearing today.

AG: I’m wearing vintage motorcycle boots, a plaid shirt from my favorite vintage store in my hometown, and sunglasses from Dollar Tree. My friend did my makeup for my birthday two days ago (and) I’m still wearing it. I slept in it two days in a row.

TV: What’s in your bag?

AG: This is my city bag. I haven’t emptied it since my birthday. It’s got everything in it: Advil, my digital camera, a Celsius I’ve already drunk, wired headphones, fashion tape, chewing gum.

TV: As a stylist, where do you draw your inspiration?

AG: I always think about what I see on the street, I love looking at people’s outfits. This collection is really fun because I see people walking by and it gives me so much inspiration for pieces to mix and match.

Ilana Zlotnikgebura, 24, veterinary student

TV:How long have you been waiting in this line?

Ilana Zlotnikgebura: An hour and a half, but I wouldn’t have waited here for an hour and a half if I hadn’t met my friend on the way.

TV: What are you most excited to discover today?

IF: Anything? I don’t have a particular crush on anything. I feel like every time I go shopping, I always find something I don’t expect to fall in love with. But I do hope to find a little baby t-shirt.

TV: Tell me about what you are wearing.

IF: This is all from a thrift store. I wear a lot of gold accessories, I wear everything I have in gold. I bought the magnifying necklace for a dollar. It’s an old Avon gift for people who sold a lot of makeup – it’s probably someone’s grandmother’s.

TV: Are you a lover of silver and gold jewelry?

IF: Yes. They are both sparkly, the more the better. I am just thinking about the shapes of the jewelry (plus) it works if they both have different gemstones, colors, or diamond inlays.

TV: Who is your style muse?

IF: Other people on the street. That’s what I love about city life: I never went out thinking I was the best dressed person I saw that day.
