TLC’s T-Boz Hospitalized With ‘Abdominal Blockage,’ Leading to Concert Cancellations

TLC’s T-Boz Hospitalized With ‘Abdominal Blockage,’ Leading to Concert Cancellations

TLC suspended performances this weekend after singer Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins landed in the hospital after experiencing unpleasant symptoms.

The “Waterfalls” and “No Scrubs” duo of T-Boz and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas were set to perform their hits at the Great New York State Fair on Friday night, but canceled their performance shortly before the show began. “Tonight’s performance at TLC has been canceled due to T-Boz experiencing symptoms related to food poisoning,” the fair announced on Instagram Friday.

“We wish him a speedy recovery,” the statement added.

A day later, TLC provided more details on why the State Fair concert was canceled, denying that T-Boz had food poisoning. T-Boz, 54, “experienced sudden and severe nausea, vomiting and intense abdominal cramping,” TLC said in a statement posted on Instagram, which was re-posted Saturday by the Great New York State Fair.

“She was immediately seen by a doctor and taken to the hospital for further testing,” the statement said. “Last night, Tionne was diagnosed with a severe abdominal obstruction, which required the cancellation of the performances in Syracuse and Foxwood.”

Following the New York State Fair, TLC was scheduled to join Shaggy for a performance Saturday at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Conn. T-Boz remained “under medical supervision” and is expected to be released Sunday, the statement said.

A representative for TLC did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment Monday.

The news of TLC’s last-minute cancellation of the show and T-Boz’s hospitalization over the weekend sparked mixed reactions on social media. Several Instagram users criticized the duo for allegedly canceling their show at the State Fair “30 minutes” before its scheduled start time. But others expressed support for T-Boz.

“We hope all the clowns in the other post making fun of her never have to experience this kind of medical emergency,” one fan wrote Saturday.

TLC apologized to fans and event organizers for the cancellations and said it was “committed to rescheduling” the canceled shows. The band said it had taken into consideration the advice of T-Boz’s doctor, “who requested that T-Boz remain in the hospital overnight to undergo a CT scan to assess the severity of his condition.”

“The group appreciates the understanding and support,” the statement said.
