Erik Metzig does not contest the murder of his parents

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Erik Metzig appeared in court Monday, pleading not guilty to two counts of first-degree intentional homicide.

The defense withdrew Metzig’s not guilty and insanity pleas, while the state recommended 50 years in prison on each count, served concurrently.

As previously reported, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths of David Metzig, 72, and Jan Metzig, 71, owners of the Union Star Cheese Factory in Zittau. Erik Metzig is charged in their deaths, and evidence from a criminal complaint suggests premeditation, including a journal found in his bedroom detailing plans to kill his parents. It was later found at a YMCA in Kimberly.

His sentencing is scheduled for October 30 at 1:00 p.m.
