Who Keeps Visitors Cool? Meet the State Fair’s Ice Supplier

Monday is shaping up to be another scorching hot day at the Minnesota State Fair. You’ll definitely want an ice cold beverage, but where does the fair’s ice come from?

Check out Gopher Ice — they’re the family-owned and operated company and exclusive ice supplier for the entire fairgrounds for 51 years.

Workers deliver the ice by hand to each vendor they supply it to.

When Channel 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS reached them on Monday morning, the teams were already about 400 bags behind schedule. However, they quickly caught up, delivering these bags to vendors as quickly as possible while battling the scorching sun.

Despite the heat wave, the fair’s new vendors seem to be thriving.

Animal handlers also made sure that the animals did not overheat.
