RFK Jr. Claims Wife Cheryl Hines Asked Him to Meet Trump

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. wasn’t sure about meeting Donald Trump because he thought it would be a “failure” with his wife, actress Cheryl Hines, he told Tucker Carlson in a new interview. But when he called her to talk about it, his wife told him to listen to Trump, he said — and the couple later had an in-person meeting with the former president and his campaign manager, Susie Wiles.

Among the independent presidential candidate’s many quirks is her relationship with Hines, best known for starring in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” She has even publicly pushed back on some of her husband’s more controversial views at times — including criticizing a statement he made comparing COVID safety rules to life in Nazi Germany — but now appears to be supportive of her husband.

“I had these meetings with President Trump, and it was partly because of you,” Kennedy began his new interview, gesturing toward Carlson. He received a call about a meeting with Trump just hours after the former president was shot, Kennedy said.

Kennedy said he was told that “the president was interested in the Trump campaign and wanted to include me. And then he talked about the vice presidency, which I wasn’t interested in.” Trump named J.D. Vance as his vice presidential running mate two days later, before the Republican National Convention.

Asked if he would be interested in talking to Trump, Kennedy said he told a campaign representative: “I don’t think so.”

“And then, and this is part of what happened, I thought it was going to be a failure with Cheryl,” Kennedy said. “I called Cheryl and she said, ‘You should listen to them.'”

Carlson interjected: “Smart.”

Kennedy added that he texted back the campaign representative he spoke with, saying, “I’m interested.”

“And then I got a text message from you — you and I have our own cell phones — and you had an unknown phone number, which you had connected me to, which was President Trump’s number. And you said, ‘You know, he’s waiting for your call.'”

Kennedy said he called Trump that night and they had a great conversation. He went to meet him the next day, the day after he was shot, for their two-year reunion with Trump, Cheryl and the campaign managers of both campaigns.

The new member of Trump’s team then shared more details about their conversation and the issues on which they found common ground, including combating chronic diseases in children and ending censorship.

Their conversation didn’t end with a solid conclusion, but they did talk about working together, according to Kennedy.

“We then put that on hold. They wanted me to do something at the convention, and I said, ‘No, I’m not going to do that,'” Kennedy said.

Kennedy noted that he still hoped to participate in the debate, though he acknowledged that it was a limited debate. Kennedy followed up the conversation with Trump by reaching out to Kamala Harris’ campaign team after Joe Biden withdrew, but Harris declined to meet with him.
