NIMC updates on registration of children’s NIN before they turn 16, sends message to parents

  • NIMC has revealed that Nigerians above 16 years old must visit the NIMC centre for further updates on their NIN

The National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) has revealed that parents are required to update their children’s NIN information when they reach the age of 16.

In a statement released on Monday, the NIMC revealed the process for updating information for people over 16 years of age.

The statement reads in full:

“Dear NIN holders, please note that you must update your child/ward’s NIN as soon as he/she reaches the age of 16 years. Please visit any NIMC Enrolment Centre and migrate your child’s NIN today! Please visit nimc.gov.ng for information on NIMC Enrolment Centres.”

Legit.ng learnt that NIMC has also introduced a transparent platform that allows online update of date of birth as well as change of name on NIN.

Statement regarding this development and the procedure as follows:

“After registering and obtaining their NIN, both minors and adults can update the information related to their NIN. Names, dates of birth, addresses, etc. can be changed. The date of birth can only be changed once.

“The Federal Government recently launched the National Population Commission’s (NPC) electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System (eCRVS), a digitalised platform for electronic registration of births and deaths.

“Adults and minors requesting modification services from NIMC must now include eCRVS documents with their service requests.

“Adults (16 years and above) need a scanned NPC certificate in addition to their other documents when applying for a date of birth change with the NIMC.

“Minors (persons aged 15 and below) need a scanned NPC birth certificate in addition to their other documents when applying for a change of date of birth at NIMC.”

On July 26, NIMC Communications Officer, Kayode Adegoke, announced that the National Assembly was seeking to strengthen through amendments the basic framework of the commission and its functioning.
