Viral video: Female doctor assaulted by patient while on duty, incident caught on CCTV

After a nationwide outcry for enhanced security measures for doctors following the alleged rape and murder at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, a fresh incident of assault has emerged in Andhra Pradesh. The recent assault involved a woman doctor who was allegedly assaulted while on duty. The video of the assault has gone viral on social media.

In a 27-second video captured by CCTV, a young doctor at Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati is seen being violently assaulted by a patient. The video shows the young woman being pulled by her hair and her head being slammed against the steel frame of a hospital bed. The video also shows that other doctors in the ward immediately came to her rescue.

According to NDTV According to the daily, the doctor, an intern at the hospital, was assaulted in the emergency ward. The victim wrote a letter to Dr RV Kumar, director and vice-chancellor, narrating the incident. In her letter, she said, “…I was attacked unexpectedly by a patient, Bangaru Raju, who approached me from behind, pulled my hair and started hitting my head violently against the steel bar of a bed,” the daily reported.

She added: “If the patient had been armed with a sharp weapon, the situation could have escalated with serious consequences,” as reported by the news site. NDTV.
