Bhubaneshwar in shock: Man beheaded for opposing love affair; accused held

Bhubaneshwar:Khandagiri police on Thursday arrested a Plus II student on charges of beheading a person who opposed his love affair with his niece.

The incident took place late on Wednesday night at Jagannath Nagar under Khandagiri police limits in Khurda district.

The victim was identified as Jaga Mallick. The police have also arrested the accused for further questioning.

According to the police, the accused was in a relationship with the deceased Jaga’s niece. However, Jaga was not happy with their relationship and opposed it, which led to a heated argument between the accused and the deceased. On the fateful night, the accused was lying in wait for Jagga and attacked him with a sword, beheading him on the spot. The incident took place when Jaga was returning home.

On being informed, a police team rushed to the spot to find Jaga’s decapitated body lying on the road and sent the body for postmortem to Capital Hospital.

After two hours of searching, the police managed to apprehend the accused at a nearby location. The police are likely to question the accused to find out more about the incident.

Khandagiri police have registered a case in this regard and are investigating the matter further.
