Daniel Sturridge ‘genuinely shocked’ by recent Liverpool transfer developments

Daniel Sturridge ‘genuinely shocked’ by recent Liverpool transfer developments

Liverpool have little time left to turn their transfer window into a positive one.

The Reds have so far failed to address their squad’s weaknesses with new signings, despite having had around three months to do so.

Barring any last-minute surprises in central defence or defensive midfield, it looks like Arne Slot will be in at least a bit of a pickle for the first half of the season.

That’s not to say Liverpool aren’t doing anything though. The Reds have made a surprise bid by bringing Federico Chiesa from Juventus to Anfield.

And reacting to the news that Chiesa is set to become Liverpool’s sixth senior striker, former Reds striker Daniel Sturridge has given his reaction.

Daniel Sturridge admits he was ‘shocked’ by Federico Chiesa

Chiesa is undoubtedly an interesting player for Liverpool. Even if some feel that he is not exactly what Slot needs at the moment, the Italian is a player who gets people moving.

While it is true that Liverpool already have a number of such players in their first-team squad, there is always room for one more, especially at such a bargain price.

The amount itself is what makes the deal to sign Chiesa look like a potential masterstroke from Liverpool.

Some have claimed that Liverpool simply felt the opportunity to sign Chiesa was too good to pass up. After reportedly agreeing a £10.9m fee from Juventus, it’s easy to see why.

Sturridge also appears to feel the same way. Speaking to X on Wednesday night, the 34-year-old praised directors Michael Edwards and Julian Ward, while also sharing what he thinks Chiesa will bring to the Reds’ attack.

“Chiesa is a top signing for Liverpool,” enthuses Sturridge.

“A very good 1v1, pace, tenacity and can finish. Really shocked at the price. Mike and Jools strike again lol…”

When will Liverpool unveil Federico Chiesa?

Chiesa was spotted at the airport on Wednesday afternoon as he sent a message to fans before heading to Liverpool.

After everything has been agreed between the clubs, the Italian international will probably have undergone medical tests during the rest of the day.

There’s still plenty of time to go before the transfer window closes. We think Reds fans can perhaps expect an official announcement and unveiling of the club on Thursday.

It will then be interesting to see which number he chooses. By our estimates, Chiesa has three shirt numbers at Liverpool.

With the prospect of further deals potentially being completed on Thursday, it’s shaping up to be an exciting day at Anfield.
