Lawyer accuses California lawmakers of ‘smoke and mirrors’ by giving mortgages to migrants

Experts from several sectors are sounding the alarm about the recently passed bill in California that would provide mortgage loans to illegal immigrants.

Civil rights attorney Leo Terrell and real estate expert Grant Cardone weighed in on the bill during an appearance on “Varney & Co.” Wednesday, revealing how the state policy is another “gimmick” for Democrats, according to Cardone.

“It’s smoke and mirrors, but it sends a message to illegals: ‘Come to California, we’re going to take care of you.’ It doesn’t make any sense. They’re treating illegals like American citizens and reaping the benefits like Americans,” Terrell told FOX Business’ Stuart Varney.

California lawmakers The state Senate passed a bill Tuesday that would allow illegal immigrants to apply for its “California Dream for All” first-time homebuyer financial assistance program.

AB 1840 requires the California Housing Finance Authority’s home purchase assistance program, or California Dream for All program, to include undocumented applicantsThe program provides first-time home buyers with up to 20% of a home’s value or up to $150,000 in down payment assistance.

Private equity manager Grant Cardone brought a real estate perspective to his assessment of the policy, doubling down on Terrell’s assertion that the bill is just “window dressing” for the 2024 election.

“It’s an old marketing gimmick. We make a promise we can’t keep. Don’t do your due diligence. Go to the dealership. It’s a $99 payment. You walk away with $700,” Cardone began. “The $25,000 tax credit. That’s a sham, too. You can get that from a manufacturer right now. It’s just a front, as you say, for an election in hopes of getting votes.”

HARRIS OFFERS $25,000 DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE FOR FIRST-TIME HOME BUYERS — IS IT A GOOD IDEA?

As Cardone mentioned, Vice President Kamala Harris recently proposed offering down payment assistance to first-time home buyers.

Harris wants to provide an average of $25,000 in assistance to all first-time home buyers in the country, which the Democratic presidential candidate She claims that this service would be provided to more than 4 million people over four years if she were in the Oval Office.

Finally, Terrell sent an urgent message to Governor Gavin Newsom, warning Californians that the law would make the state a “magnet” for illegal immigrants.

“This is a magnet for illegal immigrants. Governor Newsom, if this bill comes to his desk, if he wants to be a politician in the future, he’s going to have to veto it, Stu. But I guarantee you, I don’t know what he’s going to do. This is California,” Terrell said.
