CERT Trainings are offered in Central Texas

BELL COUNTY, Texas (KXXV) — Central Texas residents have the opportunity to learn how to better prepare for hazards and disasters that can affect their community.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Training is provided by Belton CERT, Belton Fire Department, Temple Fire & Rescue, and Temple CERT.

The training is offered free of charge to individuals aged 16 and over. Topics covered include fire safety, light search and rescue, team organisation and disaster psychology, disaster preparedness and medical operations, and terrorism.

Classes will run from September 5th to October 24th from 6pm to 9pm every Thursday, with a skills day on Saturday, October 26th starting at 8am.

Important Reminder: To successfully complete the program and receive a certificate from the Texas Division of Emergency Management, participants must attend both the classroom courses and the skills day.

The classroom is located at the Harris Community Center at 401 N Alexander Street in Belton, with Skills Day at the Temple Fire & Rescue Training Center at 7268 Airport Road in Temple.

No previous experience is required and upon successful completion of training, participants can participate in the CERT program in their region.

CERT members may assist with non-disaster related tasks, such as setting up first aid booths at special events and distributing preparedness materials to the public.

For more information on registering for the training, please contact Angie Fontenot at [email protected] or the Belton Fire Department at 254-933-5882.
