Newcastle have offered a £50m deal to sign an ‘incredible’ attacking player just before deadline day

Newcastle United ultimately had a frustrating time as they failed to sign the players they wanted.

Eddie Howe has admitted PSR’s problems left his club struggling over the summer and in the end they went through the deadline day with nothing happening.

Of course, that’s not to say Newcastle haven’t tried to do more work over the past week.

Newcastle were among the clubs looking to sign Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea, while the Mags also made a big push to sign Marc Guehi.

On deadline day, Newcastle were also linked with a move for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga.

And according to Daniel Taylor of The Athletic, the bid for Elanga would have actually resulted in a record sale for Nottingham Forest.

Newcastle’s bid for Anthony Elanga was close to £50m

Taking to his social media account X to share the news about Elanga and Newcastle, journalist Taylor paid tribute to Forest’s owners in rejecting the offer.

In doing so, Taylor revealed that Newcastle’s bid – which included Miguel Almiron – would have been worth around £50million.

Elanga would have shone in Newcastle

Most of the side players who played in Eddie Howe’s Newcastle team had good results.

Players like Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and even the aforementioned Almiron all found success with Howe in charge.

So signing Elanga would have been massive and with his pace and power he would have been a great capture.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic hailed Elanga as a great talent while he was at Manchester United and you can see why Newcastle wanted him.

Forest must therefore be admired for persevering and retaining their key man.
