Many voters continue to value humility in those they elect to public office | Chronicle

It’s hard to imagine that a presidential campaign would consider using Arlington National Cemetery as a backdrop for a photo op. For the record, such activity is expressly prohibited by federal law. What made the recent episode worse was the helpless smile and thumbs-up sign displayed by a former president — behavior that is inappropriate in any cemetery, much less on Arlington’s hallowed grounds.

Although relatives said they agreed with the presence of the cameras, families do not have the power to suspend the rules.
