Bangladesh HC rejects plea to ban Awami League

Bangladesh’s High Court on Sunday dismissed a petition seeking to ban former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League and cancel its registration over its alleged involvement in killings during the civil war. student-led mass uprisingA bench of Justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Md Mahbubul Islam said the caretaker government was “sincere” in its desire to prosecute those who ordered shots to be fired at protesters during the protest. It said individuals, not the party, committed the crime.
During the hearing, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman urged the court to dismiss the petition, saying the current administration had no intention of banning any political organisation.
