Young Driver Evades APD During Chase, But Gets Caught When He Crashes Car

Atlanta police are sharing dash cam and body cam video of a chase and arrest in which the driver could have fled if he hadn’t crashed the car.

Officers attempted to stop a Chevrolet Camaro shortly before 2 a.m. on Aug. 18 because it had a fraudulent license plate.

Instead, the driver, later identified as Derrick Martinez, 19, sped off at a “reckless and dangerous speed.”

Eventually, the police stopped pursuing Martinez.

But later they found the car again. This time it was damaged and blocking other drivers from passing.

They found Martinez fleeing the accident and were able to arrest him.

He faces 15 charges, including hit and run, marijuana possession, racing and a dozen other traffic charges.
