TAK – A man was arrested near Moei River in Mae Sot district for allegedly stretching an electric cord and communication cables illegally across the river for Burma.

Among the equipment seized was a water rocket supposedly used to carry the lines over water.

Soldiers and police arrested Jongrak Leela, 30, from the northeastern province of Roi Et, near the border river in Ban Mae Kid Mai village in tambon Mae Kasa on Sunday night.

Authorities said the suspect was arrested with 16 iron pipes, large rolls of wire and fiber optic cables, a water rocket, an air pump, pulleys, ropes and wrenches.

Authorities believe the man intended to use the water rocket to transport cabling and fibre optic cables across the Moei River, to provide electricity and internet services to users on the opposite bank.

The suspect was taken to Mae Sot police station for questioning and prosecution.
