Stagecoach hopes for ‘show up and go’ service on Cambridge Busway

A Stagecoach director said he hoped increasing the number of buses available on a service would help it become an ‘arrive and depart’ system.

Investment has been made in Stagecoach Busway in Cambridgeshire, to increase the capacity and frequency of some of its services.

The changes to public transport will come into effect in September and will include the addition of three extra buses to the service and increased frequency during peak hours.

David Boden, Stagecoach East’s business development director, said the organisation’s Park and Ride and Busway was “on track to become the ‘arrive and go’ service we all want it to be”.

Stagecoach East, Cambridgeshire’s largest bus operator, said that from Sunday its Busway services would offer a frequency of up to 10 minutes along the northern section of the route between St Ives Park & Ride and Cambridge city centre.

During morning and evening peak hours, all services on dedicated routes A and B will operate to serve Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

This would allow a frequency of up to 10 minutes on each side of the track and introduce a capacity of more than 428 seats at peak times.

The upgrade was funded by the Cambridge and Peterborough Combined Authority and discussions are underway to support its long-term sustainability.

Mr Boden said: “We are delighted to introduce these changes to our loyal customers. On the Busway, the service enhancements will see the addition of three additional buses to those already in service.

“Today, along with the Park and Ride facilities, the Busway is a vital part of Cambridgeshire’s transport network and is fast becoming the ‘arrive and go’ service we all want it to be.”

Services B

During morning and evening peak hours the service will serve hospitals on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and will continue to serve Long Road College during term time.

Further services to St Ives will be available from Addenbrooke’s Bus Station.

You will need to use Hills Road as double decker buses cannot use the Busway lane due to the low bridge.

The H and R services will be withdrawn and replaced by more A and B routes.

Madingley Park and Ride (PR1)

An additional return trip will be added at 08:20 BST from Madingley in response to customer feedback.

Additional journeys have been added to Trumpington Park & Ride (PR3) to extend the 10-minute return frequency to Trumpington until 18:55. The service will then run every 20 minutes from 19:10.

Monday to Friday 11am to 3pm Trumpington Park & Ride will be observing all stops.
