Attempted burglary caught on camera in Jackson County

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A man was caught on camera attempting a burglary in Malone on Sunday.

Deputies responded to an address around 6:30 a.m. for a burglary in progress where the victim reported a man was trying to enter his home through an open window, JCSO said.

Deputies say they were able to locate and arrest the suspect who was hiding on the property.

Juan Gabriel Lopez was later identified as the suspect, deputies said.

The victim told deputies she saw Lopez attempt to steal her Polaris by pushing the vehicle before stopping and starting to walk toward her.

The deputies were able to confirm this by viewing a video of the attempted burglary.

The victim said she asked Lopez to leave, which he did before returning a short time later with a wheelbarrow and attempting to enter the house through the window.

The wheelbarrow was stolen from the victim’s neighbor, deputies determined.

Lopez was arrested and is charged with burglary of an unoccupied dwelling (unarmed), petty theft and trespassing on property other than a structure or conveyance.
