Bruno Fernandes ‘fully aware Manchester United are not ready’ for title; defends struggling Casemiro

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted the club are not ready to push Arsenal and Manchester City for the Premier League title 24/25.

The Red Devils have started their season poorly, winning just one game in three and suffering two consecutive defeats. Manchester United had a disappointing season last year despite winning the FA Cup under Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag and this season has been no different.

Manchester United They currently sit in 14th place with just three points compared to Manchester’s blue team who have nine points from three games.

After suffering a heavy defeat to rivals Liverpool, fans and critics alike questioned Ten Hag’s ability to compete with the top teams, but Fernandes tempered expectations by saying winning the title was not an option and unachievable this season.

Talk to DAZN in Portugal, Fernandes said: “Yes, I am perfectly aware that this Manchester United is not ready to win the Premier League.

“We are indeed fighting for the title with the concrete and real objective of trying to finish in the top 4, in the places that give access to the Champions League. But there is still a lot to do for the main objective, and for my dream, which is to win this championship one day.”

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro was at fault for two of the goals against Liverpool and has been heavily criticised by fans and critics despite his vast experience and success in La Liga. The Portuguese midfielder has defended his team-mate.

The 29-year-old said: “Casemiro has more experience than me, he has played for the two best clubs in the world in terms of media coverage. He has a lot of qualities. And mistakes are going to happen to everyone. We just have to be more careful when they are about to happen and compensate and correct them in time.

“We have to be more attentive when we lose the ball, sense the danger and be more objective. Every time we have chances, we have to score more goals. We have quality in attack, but few goals.”

The Portuguese star has joined up with his national team for the Nations League, where he will face 2018 World Cup finalists Croatia and Scotland before reuniting with his Manchester United team-mates for a clash against Southampton in what looks set to be a must-win game for Ten Hag and his men.
