Manchester United’s stinging 0-3 defeat to Liverpool on Sunday was yet another reminder of how fragile the team’s midfield remains despite the horrors of last season.

Manuel Ugarte was brought in late in the transfer window and is expected to replace Casemiro, who struggled against the Merseysiders. But Erik ten Hag has already suggested the Uruguayan may not be fit enough to start.

Even in attack, after Mason Mount’s injury, United’s options are quite limited. Christian Eriksen has seen his game time significantly reduced while Bruno Fernandes looks set to need more support.

United have the opportunity to add a versatile option in the form of free agent Yusuf Yazici who left Lille when his contract expired in June.

Yazici offered to United

The Turk can play on either flank and even up front, scoring 12 times last season while registering four assists.

His agent has offered his services to several elite clubs across Europe according to HITC Football and that list also includes United.

He’s only 27, making him one of the youngest free agents on the market, and he still has tremendous ability as evidenced by his double-digit goals in two of the last four seasons.

Goals are sorely lacking in United’s midfield and a versatile option capable of playing up front could fill several gaps in the squad.

“Free agent Turkish international Yusuf Yazici has been offered to a number of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Aston Villa.

“Galatasaray are leading the race and looking to bring the 45-cap Turkey international back home. Former Lille coach Paulo Fonseca is said to be jumping at the chance to work alongside Yazici again at AC Milan, with Serie A rivals Lazio also in the mix.

Many clubs in the running

“HITC can confirm that a number of Premier League clubs have also been approached. Aston Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle are among them. As are Wolves, Southampton, Fulham and West Ham. HITC has however been informed that the Red Devils will first have to offload Christian Eriksen.”

Former Arsenal and Real Madrid superstar Mesut Ozil had called Yazici an “incredible” talent and claimed he had similar characteristics to himself.

“Yusuf Yazici is an incredible number 10. We have a lot of similarities: his left foot, his position, his passing and his calmness with the ball. We will see Yusuf at a big European club in the near future,” he reportedly said a few years ago.

Perhaps the time has come for the Turkey international, but with Eriksen unlikely to leave, a move to Old Trafford seems unlikely at the moment.
