National 401(k) Day: Are You Ready for Retirement?

CLEVELAND — The Friday after Labor Day, Sept. 6, is National 401(k) Day. It’s a great time to focus on planning and preparing for your retirement.

Good Morning Cleveland host Mike Brookbank spoke with LaRese Purnell, managing partner of CLE Consulting, about the importance of prioritizing your financial future.

“As soon as you start working or if you already have a job, be sure to talk to your human resources department and find out what your 401(k) benefits are,” Purnell said. “In most cases, companies will match your contributions up to a certain amount.”

Once you start investing in a 401(k), Purnell suggests periodically reviewing your account to see if you’re meeting your financial goals for the future.

“You should meet with your financial advisor at least twice a year,” Purnell said. “You need to take a more proactive and reactive approach.”

If you don’t have access to a 401(k) plan, there are alternatives like a traditional IRA or a Roth IRA. For more information, CLICK HERE.
