New academies and partnerships expand career opportunities at Maumelle High School

In addition to its wide range of sports offered such as football, Maumelle High School also prides itself on its rigorous curriculum in addition to preparing students for all sorts of different career paths.

According to Maumelle Principal Dr. Nick Farr, there’s a little something to ensure every student leaves feeling fulfilled and prepared for life.

“We kind of have a complete package. It’s not just the social aspect. It’s not just the athletics, but we’re trying to develop academics and that’s really what we’re focusing on,” Farr said.

Maumelle High School is constantly striving to find ways to improve the student experience, focusing on various aspects to set students on the path to success.

“One of our main goals is to foster advancement through individual determination, to prepare our students for college and careers. But again, not everyone is going to go to college, so let’s look at that other field and then explore those careers as well,” Farr said. “So, in terms of the academies, we’re trying to attract students who might not have gone into that particular field, but they want to go into a career. They want to go into something like welding, they want to go into banking, they want to do something in engineering, something that’s outside of the norm. We teach construction here,” Farr said.

The school recently added new academies, including a banking center in partnership with Telco Federal Credit Union and the Academy of Science and Construction through Central Arkansas Water.

I would say our mission is to make sure our students are ready for the next level. We want to educate not only our students, but our community. We want to educate our parents.

“We want to educate everyone, internally and externally, to make sure that everyone not only understands what we offer here, but that their child can be ready for the next level,” Farr said.

Cultivate an atmosphere where every student has the chance to shine and be proud of their school.

“Go Hornets,” Farr said in conclusion.
