Angel Reese Announces WNBA Rookie Season Is Over Due to Injury

Angel Reese’s rookie season is over.

The LSU legend had a fantastic rookie season in the WNBA, setting records for most rebounds in league history (446), most rebounds per game in a single season and most consecutive double-doubles (15).

Reese was listed as questionable heading into Sunday’s game against Dallas, but the former LSU star took to social media Saturday night to announce that his rookie season was over due to injury.

Here is Reese’s full statement:

What a year. I never would have guessed the last basket of my rookie season would be a 3, but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they’ll see more of in year two lolThrough it all, I have proven that I belong in this league, even when no one else believed I did. All I ever wanted was to come to the W and make an impact. I can confidently say that I have done that and will strive to continue to do so. I am filled with emotion right now due to a season-ending injury, but also filled with so much gratitude for what is to come. While this is God’s timing and not mine, I am finally able to give myself a physical and mental break. “God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers.” You will always see me being the biggest cheerleader on the sidelines! And Unrivaled League, see you soon!

Reese has been competing with Indiana Fever guard Caitlin Clark for the WNBA Rookie of the Year award this season, but Clark has drifted away in recent weeks.

The Chicago Sky are 12-22 this season and are still battling for the final playoff spot with 6 games remaining in the regular season.
