Las Vegas Raiders DE Janarius Robinson from the locker room on losing Malcolm Koonce

The Las Vegas Raiders travel to Los Angeles for the season opener, where they will face the Chargers.

As always, we will be there.

But before they headed to Los Angeles, they received some bad news about their emerging ED Malcolm Koonce and his health.

Friday is the last day of the week for NFL media availability when a game is on Sunday, and we have some huge coverage for you.

We spoke in the locker room with DE Janarius Robinson about the loss of Malcolm Koonce, and we look ahead to the Los Angeles Chargers.

You can watch the press conference below:

Below is the full transcript of coach Antonio Pierce’s remarks following the loss of DE Malcolm Koonce:

Q: Malcolm Koonce was injured yesterday. Is he ready to play on Sunday?

Coach Pierce: “He’ll be out.”

Q: What happened during training?

Coach Pierce: “He’s just going to be out. It happened during practice.”

Q: Jim Harbaugh’s teams are known for running the ball a lot. That hasn’t always been the case in the preseason. What are your thoughts on the run defense heading into Sunday?

Coach Pierce: “Yeah, it was really good watching the football game last night. We saw a lot of good football situations and teams that like to run the ball, and what happens when you don’t stop the run and you’re not disciplined. And that’s something we learned in the preseason and something we’ve been working on over the last couple of weeks to get ready for this game.”

Q: There seems to be a fine line to walk between blocking out outside noise and using the scoreboard material for motivation. What advice have you given players to achieve this?

Coach Pierce: “Just worry about the Raiders.”

Q: Given what you just told us, what is your opinion of Janarius Robinson? What have you seen from him in training camp and what do you like about him?

Coach Pierce: “Yeah, I mean, for all the guys – when one of them is out, it’s the next guy that steps up. Fortunately, Tyree Wilson and J Rob (Janarius Robinson), those guys have had a lot of opportunities to play, and we expect them to step up and play well.”
