Jerry Jones Steps Down From NFL Media Committee

One of the NFL’s most important owners has left one of the NFL’s most important committees.

Ben Fischer from Sports Business Journal Cowboys owner Jerry Jones recently stepped down from the media committee, a move Fischer called a “rare change” in the league’s $12.4 billion television rights portfolio.

Jones will not be replaced on the committee, which is chaired by Patriots owner Robert Kraft.

Jones will continue to serve as chairman of the committee overseeing the NFL’s internal media operations.

The official explanation for this change is that the two media committees regularly hold joint meetings, and so he is still involved in both. Like many official explanations, this one seems odd. If the two committees are so closely linked, why not let him sit on both?

At least they didn’t say he would pursue other interests and/or spend more time with his family.
