Horrific details of murder of 27-year-old mother in Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Arrest warrants allege the young daughters of Augusta’s latest murder victim had to crawl through his blood to get help and then had to identify their stepfather – a man recently paroled for another shooting – as the killer.

Davante Parks, 26, is now in custody in connection with the homicide that occurred Saturday in the 500 block of Hines Street in Augusta.

Arrest warrants allege he fatally shot Laquana Lang, 27, and left her children alone with her body for more than four hours.

According to arrest warrants, the victim’s 2- and 5-year-old children had to crawl and walk through their dead mother’s blood to get help.

According to arrest warrants released Monday, Parks shot Lang in the upper torso — and his children had to identify him to authorities as the shooter.

Arrest warrants identify Parks as the children’s stepfather.

He surrendered Sunday after authorities issued a notice Saturday that he was wanted in the murder case.

He was just released on parole on July 16 after serving time for shooting another woman on May 14, 2016, according to court records.

The 2016 victim was shot in the right arm, right thigh, left middle finger and possibly genitals, according to a report by deputies at the time.

In that case, he pleaded guilty (nolo contendere) to aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Conditions of his parole included a ban on having any contact with the victim of the 2016 shooting, co-defendants or street gangs, and a ban on using or possessing a weapon.

He was paroled after being sentenced in 2018 to 12 years in prison followed by eight years of probation on the aggravated assault charge and five years of probation on the weapons charge, consecutive to his sentence on the other charge.

Deputies say Parks violated his parole terms with this latest shooting.

Parks is being held in the Richmond County Jail on charges including murder, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and two counts of first-degree cruelty to children, jail records show.

Lang was found inside the home with at least one gunshot wound and pronounced dead around 11:06 a.m. Saturday, according to Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen.

The killing occurred around 4 a.m. but was not reported until 10 a.m., according to an incident report prepared by deputies.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office previously said deputies had arrested a suspect, but later announced they were looking for Parks.

The gun has not been found and authorities do not know its make or model, according to an arrest warrant.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

The shooting comes in the middle of a epidemic of violent crime that has left more than 170 people dead in just over two years across the CSRA region.

The crime epidemic has affected communities large and small, but as the region’s largest city, Augusta has been hit particularly hard.

The authorities have blames gangs for much of the problem.
