Man arrested while burglarizing car, used bike to hit person in Ann Arbor

ANN ARBOR, MI – A 35-year-old man has been charged with hitting someone with his bicycle after he was caught trying to plow into a car.

A community member confronted David Earl Hatten, 36, shortly before 10 p.m. Sept. 5 for allegedly breaking into a car in the 600 block of West Huron Street in downtown Ann Arbor, said Ann Arbor police spokesman Chris Page.

During the ensuing confrontation, Hatten struck the other person with a bicycle before fleeing the area on foot. He was later arrested, Page said.

The other person was not injured, police said.

Hatten was arraigned Friday, Sept. 6, before 14A-1 District Court Magistrate Elisha Fink on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.

He was granted personal recognizance and is due in court on September 19.
