Arrest for 2022 Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier Murder

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WWSB) – U.S. Marshals have made an arrest in a 2022 homicide at the Sunshine Skyway Fishing Pier.

Alex Martinez, 34, was arrested in Plant City by U.S. Marshals in connection with the death of Diomicio Primitivo Ibarra-Hernandez, 26, in October 2022 during a drug deal.

According to detectives, Martinez arranged to meet the victim on October 14, 2022, at the Sunshine Skyway South Fishing Pier to purchase a large quantity of marijuana. During the transaction, multiple shots were fired and Ibarra-Hernandez was killed.

Martinez had been on the run for nearly two years. He was convicted of murder with a firearm and charged with failing to comply with a written promise to appear and providing false information to law enforcement.

Martinez is currently being held at the Hillsborough County Jail. He will be extradited to Manatee County at a later date.
