Los Alamitos begins its six-day meet on September 13

The September Thoroughbred Meeting at Los Alamitos will begin on Friday, September 13.

The six-day season will run through Sunday, September 22, with races held Friday through Sunday for both weeks (September 13-15 and September 20-22). The start time will be 1 p.m.

The meeting will include a pair of races worth a total of $200,000.

The second day of the season – Saturday, September 14 – will be the $75,000 EB Johnston Stakes for older horses bred or sired in California over a distance of one mile.

The most lucrative of the two races is the $125,000 Dark Mirage, reserved for older fillies and mares. The one-mile race will be held on Saturday, September 21.

Gates to the tracks, including Burgart’s and Vessels Club, will open at 9:30 a.m. General parking is free and grandstand admission is $3 ($2 for seniors).

The betting menu includes the Pick Six – with the traditional 70%-30% split – a pair of Pick 4s – races 2-5 and the last four races – as well as the popular Players’ Pick 5 – a 50 cent minimum bet with a reduced 14% cashout rate that is offered on the first five races.

The Los Alamitos Racing Association will distribute $10,000 to Pick Six on Saturday, September 14 and Saturday, September 21, provided there are no carryovers.

In addition to the Dark Mirage, the September 21 schedule will include a real-money handicap contest with two spots available for the 2025 National Handicap Championship in Las Vegas.
