  • Taylor Swift said she supported Kamala Harris in part because of a false image of her shared by Donald Trump.

  • Last month, Trump shared an Uncle Sam-inspired image of Swift on his Truth Social account.

  • The singer said the image “spoke to my fears about AI” and the dangers of misinformation.

Taylor Swift has said her support for Kamala Harris was partly motivated by Donald Trump sharing a false image of her, as she opened up about her fears about AI and misinformation in the election.

In an Instagram post announcing her support for Harris, Swift said she had recently been “informed that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy was posted on her site.”

“This really brought home my fears about AI and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It led me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my real plans for this election as a voter. The easiest way to combat misinformation is to tell the truth,” she said in a post minutes after the post. end of debate between the vice president and former president Trump.

Swift was probably referring to a Social Truth job made by Trump last month. The former president published “I accept!” accompanied by four sets of images showing mainly women wearing “Swifties for Trump” t-shirts.

The footage also included an Uncle Sam-inspired rendition of Swift with the words: “Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump.”

One set of images came from a post titled “satire,” and several of them displayed typical AI markers. However, two of the images shared by Trump appeared to be real, showing actual Trump supporters. Jenna Piwowarczyk.

The images angered some of Swift’s fans, who encouraged the singer to sue the former president for the unauthorized use of her image.

Legal experts and celebrity attorneys previously told Business Insider that Swift could pursue legal action over the image, including on federal grounds of trademark infringement and false advertising, but they expressed doubt that the case would be successful.

The former president has since tried to distance himself from the images. Last month, when asked about Swift’s potential lawsuit, Trump said he knew “nothing” about the images, which he said were fabricated by others.

Trump said he “did not generate” the images and called AI “very dangerous.”

Experts say AI is a problem in elections

Experts have long feared that Widespread use of AI Deepfakes, AI-generated text and hyper-targeted ads can blur the line between fact and fiction, making it harder for voters to discern what information is credible.

Although Swift has spoken out on American political issues in the past, she had not yet endorsed either candidate for 2024 when Trump shared the questionable images. She had already endorsed the Biden-Harris campaign in 2020 and accused Trump “to fan the flames of white supremacy and racism.”

Many fans are eagerly awaiting Swift’s decision to weigh in on the 2024 election. A grassroots group called Swifties For Kamala, which formed to rally support for the Democratic ticket, has gathered more than 60,000 subscribers on X.

This endorsement will also come as a pleasant surprise to many Democrats. The singer has a voice in the United States adult fan base The 2020 presidential vote is estimated to be nearly as large, giving it a unique cultural influence. And just an hour after the Harris-Walz campaign received an endorsement from Taylor Swift, She started selling friendship bracelets inspired by the singer.

Trump representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider outside of normal business hours.
