Virginia worker falls from room, evacuated by Maryland State Police

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — A Maryland State Police helicopter rescued a 25-year-old construction worker who fell from a roof in Hardy County Monday, authorities said. The worker, who was injured in the fall from a multi-story home, was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown for treatment.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command deployed Trooper 5, based in Cumberland, Maryland, to perform the lift mission at the request of local first responders.

The terrain and severity of the worker’s injuries prompted the Moorefield Volunteer Fire Department and West Hardy Emergency Medical Services to request aerial assistance.

The AW-139 helicopter circled over the site while a soldier/paramedic was lowered to the scene, enabling the rescue. The mission was successfully completed, police said.

The Maryland State Police Aviation Command, in operation since 1970, provides 24-hour coverage throughout Maryland, including medevac, search and rescue and support to law enforcement.
