Miami-Dade police officer identified in incident with Tyreek Hill police

MIAMI GARDENS, Florida – The body camera video of Tyreek Hill’s traffic stop, released Monday, is now making national headlines. Police have now publicly identified one of the officers involved.

The shocking video went viral and put Miami-Dade County in the spotlight.

Hill was arrested following a traffic stop hours before the Miami Dolphins’ season opener on Sunday.

In the video, Hill is physically removed from his car before being pinned to the ground and handcuffed by officers.

Miami-Dade County Commissioners Speak Out After Reviewing Body-Worn Camera

“When you look at frame by frame, when you look at the interactions between Tyreek and the officers, because there are several, there are moments where both parties seem out of control,” Miami-Dade Commissioner Keon Hardemon said. “From the beginning, the officers asked him to roll down his window, he wouldn’t do it. The officers told him, if he doesn’t roll down his window, I’m going to have to ask him to get out of this vehicle and he wouldn’t roll down his window, so I think the officers handled that situation from that point on as they would any other person.”

Hill is then moved to the sidewalk, where he struggles to sit up, explaining to officers that he recently had knee surgery.

“When the officer forced him down, when he was trying to explain that I had knee surgery, I think he may have crossed the line,” Hardemon said.

Local police union president Steadman Stahl said Hill was driving in a manner that put himself and others in great danger, saying he was uncooperative with officers.

Miami-Dade Police Commissioner Stephanie Daniels said she released the video in the interest of transparency. She has launched an internal investigation, and one of the officers involved in the incident, now identified as Danny Torres, has been placed on administrative duty while the investigation continues.

“There’s no doubt that the perception, at least visually, is not good for Miami-Dade County, and we have to address that,” County Commissioner Juan Carlos Bermudez said.

The attorney representing Torres issued a statement saying the decision to place his client on leave was premature, adding: “We request the immediate reinstatement of our client and a full, thorough and objective investigation as also recommended by Director Daniels. Our client will not comment until this investigation is complete and the facts are fully disclosed.”
