In the era of artificial intelligence, customer demand for high-performance NAND solutions, including SSDs for data centers, as well as ultra-fast DRAM chips, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM), is increasing, SK hynix said. In line with this trend, the company has developed and launched a new product (PEB110) with improved data processing speed and energy efficiency, using PCIe Gen5 specifications.

SK hynix hopes to meet “diverse customer needs” with a more robust SSD lineup, following the successful mass production of the PS1010 with the introduction of the PEB110. SK hynix says it is currently in qualification with a global data center customer, with plans to mass produce the PEB110 in the second quarter of 2025, pending qualification.

SK hynix also said it has applied SPDM security protocol and data model technology to the PEB110 for its data center SSDs for the first time to “significantly improve information security features.” The company explains that SPDM is a key security solution specializing in server system protection, providing secure server authentication and monitoring. With the recent increase in cyberattacks on data centers, the company expects the PEB110 with SPDM to meet customers’ high information security needs,

Ahn Hyun, head of SK hynix’s NS committee, said: “The new product leverages the company’s best-in-class 238GB 4D NAND memory, which boasts the industry’s most competitive standards in terms of cost, performance and quality. Going forward, we are on track to proceed with customer qualification and volume production to solidify our position as the world’s leading AI memory supplier in the growing data center SSD market.“.

SK hynix will manufacture its new PEB110 SSD in 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities with support for OCP version 2.5 specifications for better compatibility across global data centers.
