Sky News presenter sacked after comparing Gaza to Holocaust

Sky News presenter Belle Donati has quit the channel after comparing the situation in Gaza to the Holocaust during an interview with Israel’s UN ambassador Danny Danon.

According to a report from Deadline published Tuesday, Sky News declined to renew Donati’s contract following her comments in January. Those comments also prompted a public apology from the British network, though Donati herself has not issued one.

During the interview with Danon, Donati compared his proposal to promote the “voluntary emigration” of Palestinians from Gaza to the “resettlement” of Jews during the Holocaust. After the incident, Donati did not appear on air again and Sky News later apologized.

In a statement released by the network in January, a Sky News presenter said: “During an interview earlier today with Israeli politician Danny Danon, a Sky News presenter made a comparison between Mr Danon’s remarks about Israel’s war against Hamas and the treatment of Jews during the Holocaust. Sky News acknowledges that this comparison was completely inappropriate and recognises the offensive nature of the remark. Sky News apologises unreservedly for this comparison and apologises to Mr Danon himself.”

Sky News declined to comment further on the matter and Donati has yet to issue a response.
