‘Selling Sunset’ star apologizes for pretending to own desert town after backlash

“Selling Sunset” newcomer Alanna Gold has an apology to make.

On Tuesday, Gold walked back her claims that she and her husband owned Pioneertown in San Bernardino, California, after facing backlash from its residents.

“I want to personally address this information to you to say that I am deeply sorry for the confusion I have caused,” the real estate agent said in a statement, according to People.

“I certainly do not own Pioneertown, I should never have said that and I apologize. I want you to know that I meant no harm, I love Pioneertown and I was just too excited to talk about it,” she continued.

Gold added that she and her husband were inspired to invest in “a house and other properties” in the city because they “wanted to be part of the community.”

“Again, I’m truly sorry to the people of Pioneertown. I would never want to disrespect the history of the town or any of the people who make it such a wonderful place,” she concluded.

The show’s newest cast member raised eyebrows in Season 8 when she told her fellow Oppenheim Group agents that she and her husband owned the small California desert town.

At one point, Gold even treated some of the ladies to a brief trip to Pioneertown, where she showed off her luxurious multi-million dollar estate.

Shortly after the season premiere on Friday, Pioneertown residents responded to Gold’s comments, calling the ownership claims “verifiably false.”

“Alanna Gold of ‘Selling Sunset’s’ baseless claims that she ‘owns Pioneertown’ undermine 78 years of internationally celebrated film, arts and culture history,” read a statement posted Monday on the city’s Instagram account.

“These statements demean generations of artists, neighbors, nature lovers, community members, musicians, small business owners and otherwise wonderful people of Pioneertown.”

They further refuted Gold’s claim, stating that Pioneertown “is owned by over 100 independent parties.”

“Ms. Gold holds a small, non-controlling minority interest in an entity that owns six of the thirty-five parcels in the Mane Street area, constituting less than 1% of Pioneertown’s total 640 acres,” the residents explained.

“The claim that she owns ‘the whole city’ is patently false.”
