The Upstate is packed with diverse events this weekend, from cultural festivals to community gatherings to running marathons.

Here’s a list of events happening in the Upstate this weekend.

Joan Osborne in Greenville

Singer Joan Osborne will perform at the Peace Center’s Gunter Theater in Greenville at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Joan Osborne broke through 25 years ago with the multi-platinum album Relish and the single “One of Us.”

Throughout her career, the seven-time Grammy nominee has explored different genres: pop rock, soul, R&B, blues, roots rock, gospel, funk and country.

She is on tour to promote her latest CD, “Nobody Owns You.”

Barbecue competition

Pork, chicken and beef barbecues will compete for the best dish at the 14th annual Mauldin SOOIE. The BBQ Cook-Off will be held Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14 at the Mauldin Cultural Center.

This free and friendly barbecue competition will pit 25 chefs against each other to determine rankings in five prize categories, plus live music, fireworks, “Kid Zone” activities and more at 101 E. Butler Road.

25th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival

Do you enjoy learning and experiencing different cultures? Then consider visiting the 25th Annual Hispanic Heritage Festival on Saturday, September 14 at Fluor Field in Greenville from noon to 6 p.m.

This event will feature cultural entertainment, food, dancing, children’s activities, crafts and much more. Admission prices range from $5 to $10.

Miles for mammograms

If you enjoy cycling, consider participating in the Freewheelers Miles for Mammograms Ride hosted by the Bearden-Josey Women’s Cycling Team on Saturday, September 14. to Inman.

Check-in begins at 7:30am and departure is scheduled for 9am. The bike ride will begin at Holston Creek Park, 7561 New Cut Road, Inman.

The registration fee is $45 and the day-of-event registration fee is $50.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Bearden-Josey Mammography Assistance Program. Lunch is included for all registered runners. The event will take place rain or shine.

Hogback Mountain Day

Looking for a local community gathering to attend in Spartanburg? Consider attending Hogback Mountain Day on Saturday, September 14, from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Landrum Town Center, S. 562 Landrum St. Admission is free.

The event will include free family events at the Landrum Market Pavilion. On North Trade Avenue, there will be a farmers market, carnival rides, a petting zoo, a King BMX stunt show, music at the market and much more.

Autumn and Farm Festival

The Town of West Pelzer is hosting a Fall and Farm Festival on Saturday, September 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 30 Main St. in Pelzer.

Attendees will be able to meet local farmers and purchase produce, meat and crafts. There will also be inflatables, children’s activities, livestock, a tractor display with modern and vintage equipment, and much more.

Magnetic South Brewery Third Anniversary Party

Magnetic South Brewery, located at 516 N. Main St., celebrates its third anniversary Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in Anderson.

The event will include family activities such as Yoga On Tap hosted by The Flow Room SC, Soul Legit will perform in the courtyard starting at noon. Fixing the Unbroken will host an adoption event and fundraiser all day.

Alzheimer’s Association, Walk to End Alzheimer’s Disease

The Alzheimer’s Association, Walk to End Alzheimer’s returns to the Upstate to help raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

The Anderson County Walk to End Alzheimer’s will take place Saturday, Sept. 14, at AnMed Health’s North Campus, 2000 E. Greenville Street in Anderson. Registration opens at 9 a.m. and an opening ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m.

The walk will begin at 10:15 a.m. and is open to all ages and abilities. During the ceremony and walk, all participants will carry brightly colored flowers, each representing their connection to the disease.

Participants in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s event will take a casual two-mile walk through Anderson County.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Anderson County had 216 participants with 55 teams raising $42,213, or 50 percent of their $85,000 goal. Click here to donate to the Anderson Walk to End Alzheimer’s fund.
