Suspect charged in killing of man outside Kansas home

Suspect charged in killing of man outside Kansas home

SHAWNEE COUNTY — Law enforcement is investigating a homicide in Topeka and has made an arrest.

identified the victim as Michael Sanchez, 47, according to Topeka police Lt. Ronnie Connell.

Shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, police responded to the 1300 block of SW Western in Topeka for a report of a person shot, according to police Lt. Matt Danielson.

First responders located Michael Sanchez, 47, who was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the investigation, Caleb Horton, 23, of Topeka, was transported to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on the following charges: first-degree murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm within city limits and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon.
