Jennifer Rock marries fiancée Jill Deering in legal ceremony

Jennifer Rock and her fiancée Jill Deering have officially tied the knot.

The couple, who first got engaged in March 2023, exchanged vows in front of an intimate ceremony by their parents and Jenn’s son Matt on Tuesday, September 10, ahead of their second, bigger ceremony later this month.

Sharing a glimpse of the first of their big days, Jenn wrote: “05-09-2024, the day we officially said ‘I do’. We had such a special day with our parents and Matt as witnesses to our legal marriage.”

“Nothing really prepared us for the love and emotion of that day,” Jenn admitted. “On to the ‘big day’ now… all that’s left to do is sleep!”

Although they’ve only been engaged for nearly 18 months, Jenn and Jill’s big day preparations have been immense. The couple celebrated not one, but two proposals.

They first shared the news of their engagement in March 2023, when Jill got down on one knee to pop the question in front of their family and friends who were in on the surprise.

Jenn later revealed that she also wanted to propose to her longtime love because Jill “deserves her moment too.” How thoughtful!

And that’s exactly what she did, because on July 7, 2023, Jenn got down on one knee and popped the question to Jill in a beautiful lavender field, which not only made for a gorgeous photo but also undoubtedly smelled amazing.

Talk to TO EVOKE Before their wedding, Jenn recalled: “I (proposed to him) in Provence because when we first started dating it was the height of it (the Covid-19 pandemic), and I had been writing him letters every Friday and in the package there was a little sprig of lavender.”

“Every week she would get a sprig of lavender until we could finally go on our next date and I gave her lavender,” she explained. “So lavender is woven into every element of our relationship, whether I’m giving her candles or bath bombs, it’s always lavender. It made sense to ask her (to marry me) in a lavender field.”

“The joy of being in a same-sex relationship is that there are no traditional rules that you technically have to follow,” Jenn said. TO EVOKE“So we discussed marriage openly for a good year before she moved in.”

“We knew our goal was to be able to get married legally. As a gay couple, it means a lot to us. It’s not legal everywhere, and even where we’re going on our honeymoon, people have warned us that it’s not always the safest place. So we’re very fortunate.”

“Getting married is obviously a choice, but for us, it’s not,” Jenn continued. “In the name of queerness and equality, we would both propose, and we would both have the opportunity to plan the proposal, which is an honor, and then receive the same thing.”

“It actually went really well. There was no competition, there was no question of who was going to start. We planned each other’s proposal at the same time, because we thought the other one would like it, and that’s usually what happened next.”

Congratulations, Jenn and Jill!
