James McAvoy says meeting Jennifer Aniston wasn’t great

Forget “never meeting your heroes” — James McAvoy has a mortifying story about why you should never meet the celebrity you have a crush on.

On Wednesday’s episode of Watch what’s happening liveTHE Don’t say anything bad The star admitted to having a crush on Friends Child actress Jennifer Aniston crosses paths one day in Hollywood, without his knowledge, at a party… but their interaction is far from perfect.

“I met her and it wasn’t great,” McAvoy told host Andy Cohen, quickly clarifying, “Not because she’s not great.”

He explained: “I was at a party when I was really young, I was 22 in Los Angeles, and I met Lucy Liu. And Lucy Liu was really, really nice to me and she said, ‘Come meet my friends.'”

“I parked right next to Jennifer Aniston,” McAvoy recalled. “And right when (Liu) said, ‘Hey guys, this is my new friend James,’ instead of saying that, she got pulled aside by a guy she went to high school with. She drove off and I was alone with all these people saying, ‘Hey, what’s up, I’m new in town.’”

Unfortunately, McAvoy made things even more awkward by turning to his favorite celebrity and saying, “So you’re Jennifer Aniston and you’re in Friends” . ”

Needless to say, this observation was not particularly well received. “It was tough,” McAvoy admitted. “But she was lovely.”

McAvoy is certainly not the first Hollywood star to admit she has a crush on Aniston. Friends Her love interest David Schwimmer admitted to having a “major crush on Jen” during the hit sitcom’s first season. During the 2021 reunion special, he said, “At one point, we both had crushes on each other, but it was like two ships crossing paths because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that line. We respected that.”

Jake Gyllenhaal, another of her former co-stars, once joked that he played her love interest in the 2002 film. The good girl It was a bit difficult.

“I had a crush on her for years. And working with her was not easy,” Gyllenhaal said, adding that his crush was not rooted in his work on sitcoms. “(It was) not so much Friendsbut in a way her personality seen from afar, and the films she played in.”
