Sonnentag announces LEED certification

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – Sonnentag announces that its facility is Gold Certified for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

According to a Sonnentag press release, the Sonnentag is the first building occupied and used by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire that is LEED certified.

Chancellor James Schmidt said it was a big win for the project, as well as the university.

“The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has long championed environmental sustainability, and we have sought to implement as many initiatives as possible to reduce our carbon footprint,” said Chancellor James Schmidt. “This is a huge win for the Sonnentag Project, the university, the community and the environment. Anytime we can work collaboratively to impact our community, I believe we are serving the public good and ensuring that future generations will benefit.”

To achieve LEED certification, which means the building is energy efficient with lower carbon emissions and is a healthy space, a project must consider carbon, energy, water, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environmental quality, according to the press release.
