Man arrested for murder after campground shooting

NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) — A man has been arrested after a shooting at a campground left one person dead.

Cliff Salisbury, 59, of Mount Nebo, has been charged with first-degree murder, according to West Virginia State Police.

A statement from WVSP said when troopers arrived on scene, they found the victim, Joseph Tanner, 69, of Summersville, lying on the ground with a gunshot wound.

According to the criminal complaint, Tanner was found near a vehicle with a shotgun in the passenger seat.

According to the complaint, Salisbury told police that he “showed up at the victim’s RV, where they got into an argument. During the argument, the defendant fired a shotgun, striking the victim, resulting in his death.”

The incident happened at Beaver Lake Campground in Calvin.
