Jeremy Clarkson issues stark warning to Grand Tour bosses over future of show as fans mourn One For The Road

Jeremy Clarkson issued a stark warning to The Grand Tour bosses over the future of the show on Thursday after the latest episode left fans in tears.

The presenter ended his long-running TV partnership with Richard Hammond and James May when One for the Road aired on Friday.

The final episode sees the trio crossing the width of Zimbabwe in three cars, all unsuitable for the task, as they bid each other a cheerful farewell.

Viewers joked that they were “getting the tissues ready” before watching the episode, admitting that the stars “will never be matched”.

Jeremy himself issued a stern warning to bosses, should they ever decide to reboot the show with new presenters.

In quotes obtained by The Sun, he said: “My advice to Amazon would be – and I’ve given them this advice before – for heaven’s sake, don’t use famous people who ‘like’ cars.

“Because when you do this show, it has to be your life. No, you can’t open supermarkets. No, you can’t appear on another show. If you’re not actually filming, you’re thinking about what you’re going to film next. It has to be an experience that occupies your whole life.”

“They would have to be real car enthusiasts. I would go to car journalists. James, Richard and I are all car journalists.

“That would be my advice if you want to continue, and I hope Amazon continues.”

Sharing their thoughts on X after watching the episode, fans mourned “the end of an era.”

They wrote: “The new Grand Tour is absolutely fantastic. I’m going to miss these three geniuses on TV”; “The Top Gear/Grand Tour trio will never be equalled”; “I’m about to watch The Grand Tour: One For The Road, I’ve got the tissues ready”;

“The end of an era. I grew up watching Top Fear and then The Grand Tour. It was a great TV show and as I grew up I realised that James May was by far the funniest of them all”; “The end of an era! And what an era it was!”; “Men all over Britain will be crying today as the final episode of The Grand Tour airs.”

Last week, Richard said he was preparing to “wake up and cry every day” as he prepared to say goodbye to his partnership with Jeremy and May.

Speaking on This Morning on Monday ahead of the final episode, Richard admitted he was “struggling to understand” the ending.

Alongside hosts Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, he spoke about his career on Top Gear and said: “It’s really weird, I can’t get my head around it. I’ll be forever grateful to Jeremy and James.”

“I haven’t realized it yet. I think in six months I’ll wake up every morning crying.

“When I got the job, I was 31, I burst into tears when they called me. I said to my wife, ‘This is going to change everything,’ and that’s what happened.”
